Barrie Summer Bash 2024
Stratford Flames U17 travelled to Barrie for a Summer Bash this past weekend.   Played some great games but came up a little short with lots of positive takeaways to build on.

Mckenzie Parsons drove in 5 runs on 4 hits to lead the Stratford Flames to a 16-4 win against the London Lightning Blue to open the tournament.  Brooklyn Boville earned the win allowing 4 runs on 3 hits.  Kenleigh Soper, Rylee Nethercott and Hannah Mogk each had multiple hits in the game.
Game 2 was against the toughest team of the weekend the home town Barrie Storm.  It was a back and forth battle and came down to the bottom of the 7th inning.  Boville trippled to score the tying run and then Lyla Straus came to the plate and singled to score Boville for the winning run.  Soper earned the win with a great pitching performance against an excellent team.  Pressley Stephenson with a home run topped off a 5 run 5th inning.  Brooke Wilhelm and Mogk also with multiple hits in the game.
Game 3 was against the Mississauga Hurricanes.  Rylee Nethercott collected 3 hits in 3 at bats to lead the offence to an 8-0 victory.  Ella Koch pitched the shutout for the Flames.  Mogk and Rachael Barber followed up with multiple hits in the game.
Game 4 again was looking to Nethercott who led the team scoring 5 runs on 2 hits including an in the park home run.  Boville, Koch, Stephenson, Barber and Wilhelm all added hits leading to a big 15-5 victory over the Kawartha Lakers.  Stephenson earned the win giving up 3 hits and 5 runs over 4 innings.
Last game of the round robin faced off against Palmerston Marlins 08.  Back to back triples by Parsons and Koch extended an early lead.  Koch earned her second win with a 9-2 victory.  Stephenson Straus, Parsons and Mogk contributed at the plate in the win.
Finishing the round robin at 5-0 set up a match with Palmerston Black in the quarter finals.  Stratford outhit the Marlins 13-5 but it was Palmerston that came out ahead with a 10-6 score.  Brooke Wilhelm, Stephenson and Mogk each with 2 hits.  Palmerston got out to an early lead that Stratford could not recover from.
The first loss moved Stratford to the consolation round but the weather was not going to let them continue as the rain put a early end to the tournament.
The bats were on fire all weekend for the Flames which made the coaches proud of the girls.  They will continue to build on these successes as they continue through the season.  Lots of work yet to do.  Will look for continued improvement for the Stratford tournament in July.
