First Tournament of the year for the U17 Flames took us to Queen of the Diamonds tournament in Brantford. A hot weekend and 8 games later the team battled Haldimand Black to a 13-10 loss claiming our first silver Medal of the season.
Plenty of pitching battles through the weekend Led by Ella Koch, Pressley Stephenson, Kenleigh Soper and Brooklyn Boville. Highlights of the weekend were in Round robin play with 2 out in the 2nd inning the team went on a tear scoring 16 runs on route to a 20-4 victory over London Red. McKenzie Parsons went 2/3 with 3RBI's, Soper, Hannah Mogk, Ella Gracey and Stephensen with 2 hits a piece. In the semi finals against Haldimand Orange Lyla Straus and Riley Nethercott both turned 2 walk into runs with excellent baserunning,
In the final game Brooke Wihelm led the charge with 2 doubles, a single and walk. Plenty of action on the left side of the infield with great defensive plays by Rachael Barber and Hannah Mogk assisted in keeping the games close.
Strong plays by Gracey, Nethercott, Straus in the outfield also helped keep us in the game and gave us a chance to win in the 7th inning. We scored 3 runs to keep it close but fell just short as the game came to an end.
A great effort by the entire team and a well deserved Silver Medal.
We are off to Barrie in a couple of weeks and look to improve on our performance.
