Stratford Flames Soper Bring Home Gold
The Kiwanis Club of Stratford Squirt Soper baseball team went undefeated in Innerkip this weekend to win the gold medal in the A division at the Huron Perth Girls Fastball Championships!!

The pitching duo of Riley Nethercott and Kenleigh Soper combined for 56 strikeouts over 5 games to lead the Flames to the gold medal win.

In game 1 vs North Middlesex the Flames Skylar Fadelle & Kiara McGregor led the way with 3 hits each and combined to score 6 of the Flames 17 runs in a 17-5 win.

Game 2 vs Shakespeare was the 1st close game the Flames had seen in a while. The Flames came out on top with a 3-1 win thanks in part to great pitching and a timely hit by Josie Walker with runners on base to score a couple runs including the winning run

Game 3 vs Fullarton saw 9 hits from the Flames batters highlighted by triples from both Aveleen Flood & Fadelle. Final score Flames 13 - A's 3

Game 4 (Semi Finals) vs Exeter was an 8-2 win. 1st inning singles from McGregor, Soper, Walker, Charlee Gethke & Ella Gracey helped cash in 5 of the teams 8 runs. Nethercott & Soper combined for 13 strikeouts to help shutdown the Exeter bats and seal the Flames spot in the championship game

Game 5 (Finals) vs Listowell was a true team effort. This game was the best game the Flames have played all season long. The score was back and forth all game. The Flames bats combined for 17 hits over the 7 innings lead by McGregor who went 4 for 4 and scored all 4 times. McKenzie Parsons was a huge part of the Flames success while being behind the plate for 2 straight games (13 innings) in the heat. She threw out multiple base runners trying to steal bases or thought they could take a big lead off the base. They had no idea there was a cannon behind the plate!!
The Flames finished the regular season in 1st place overall giving them home team advantage all tournament long which was huge in the final game. With the game tied 15-15 going into the bottom of the 7th inning, Ella Gracey drew a 1 out walk, and that was all she needed!! Determined to score the winning run, Gracey stole 2nd base on the 1st pitch then with the ball only 3' away she took off for 3rd base. With her 3rd base coach yelling stop... she then took off for home. (little bugger) With every Stratford fan jumping out of their chair, Gracey crossed the plate to win the game!!

The coaching staff is very proud of this group of girls. They worked hard every game & practice all season long to get better knowing the end result could be a gold medal the final weekend.
